How to Switch Between
Masteries
If you have already learned a mastery (Elixir Master, Potion Master,
Transmutation Master) you are able to switch to a new mastery simply by
paying 150g. To do this you first have to talk to the NPC from which you
learned your current mastery. By paying 150g you can unlearn your
current mastery. You then have to go and talk to another NPC that will
teach you your new mastery. This is free.
The three NPC's are:
Elixir Master:
Lorokeem in Shattrath City
Potion Master:
Lauranna Thar'well in Cenarion Refuge
Transmutation Master:
Zarevhi in The Stormspire

Unlearning a mastery
If you want to switch masteries (to elixir mastery or transmutation
mastery) from potion mastery, you must first talk to quest-giver for
your current mastery to unlearn what you know. It costs 150g to
unlearn a mastery. You can then learn any of the other masteries without
doing any more quests (or spending more money) by going and talking to
the representative of that mastery that you want to switch to. Your
alchemy level is unaffected by changing your mastery (i.e. you do not
lose any skill levels).
It should be noted that potion
mastery is the cheapest/easiest mastery quest,
requiring only a drop off
the second boss in normal Botanica
and a few cheap potions. Compare that to the Master of Transmutation
quest which requires 4 primal mights (over 500g on my server), or Master
of Elixirs which requires you to go into Black Morass in the Caverns of
Time. Many report having to run it 2 to 3 times in order to get the
quest items needed.
It is common practice to simply do the potion mastery quest, then
unlearn it and switch to one of the others. Switching from Potions
Mastery to Transmutation Mastery will cost you 150 g, but will save you
about 350g for one run through Botanica. Switching from Potions Mastery
to Elixirs Mastery will cost you 150g, but save you 2 or 3 runs through
an instance (Black Morass) that not many people do any more.
