The Blood Elves History

Centuries ago, the High Elven ships landed on the shores of Lordaeron; the exiled were looking for a new home.  Illness struck down many as they treked across Tirisfal Glades.  Upon entering what they called the Ghostlands, they found forests similar to their lost home in Kalimdor, they wanted to settle there.  They battled the Amani Trolls of Zul'Amon, in a war that was long and bloody, in order to make their new home in those forests.

After a long and bloody war, the Kingdom of the Quel'Thalas  was founded, and "using their greatest arcane arts and a vial of water stolen from the Well of Eternity, the High Elves created the Sunwell".  The magic energy from it infused all High Elves with strength and vigor.  So powerful was the Sunwell that spring would forever reign in Eversong Forest.  The defenses would bring the High Elves peace for 4,000 years.  They loved living in Eversong Woods in their beautiful Silvermoon City, the Blood Elven Capital.

It was the alliance between the forces of Quel'thalas and the human nation of Arathor who finally brought the Amani Trolls empire to dust.  Thereafter the High Elves taught the Arathor magic and between them, they founded Dalaran.    This was to be the home of the wizards, both elves and human, who were looking to learn the arcane ways.

But strife returned with the Second War.  With the help of the Horde, the Amani Trolls struck at the Quel'thalas once again.  Many High Elves died, but with their whole nation united and with the help of the alliance, they soon defeated the horde.  Once the threat was over, the Quel'thalas hoped for peace, but their was much bickered amongst the human nations, so the High Elves withdrew from the Alliance.  Years went by and friendships that had once been warm, turned cold.

It was during the Third War that the Undead Armies overran the Elven nation and closed on the precious Sunwell.  Betrayal created the opening and the Sunwell was shattered.  All of the royal family was killed save for Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider, who was studying in Dalaran at the time.  The Prince was filled with a thirst for vengeance.  The Quel'thalas was almost entirely obliterated and many of those remaining were dying.  They were in withdrawal from their addiction to the Sunwell.

To honor those who had died to the Scourge of the Third War, Prince Kael'thas named his people the "Blood Elves", and joined the campaign against the scourge.

Though powerful and angry, the Blood Elves eventually accepted assistance from the Naga, under Lady Vashj.  Grand Marshal Garithos had been watching Prince Kael'thas closely for some time.  He considered the Blood Elves' alliance with the Naga to be high treason.  His army descended on the small population of Blood Elves who were in Dalaran and imprisoned them.  It was the combined forces of Lady Vashj and her Naga and Prince Kael'thas and his Blood Elves that freed the imprisoned Blood Elves.  They fled with the Naga through the Portal to Outland.

Most of the Blood Elves stayed in Outland, but Rommath went back with a message of hope.  Since that time, the Blood Elves have worked to live with their addiction, through strict mental discipline.  They have been rebuilding their beautiful Silvermoon City, for the day when Prince Kael'thas returns.

The Night Elves History

The night elves were, of course, immortal.  They were once known as the Kaldorei and they lived on Kalimidor for thousands of years.
