4. The Story of Ooghra and Luciendar **********************************************************
She was
only a pup when it happened, maybe six or seven. Old enough to
carry an axe and help her father kill boars and deer for meat,
but her trial of womanhood was still several years away. She
was still so very young when the Gorefangs came. Her own
tribe - the Frostwolves - were much greater and stronger than
the rebellious and vicious Gorefangs. This opposing tribe was
nothing but a "ragtag bunch of weak-blooded, honorless orcs,"
according to her father. Their numbers were fewer, their
muscles weaker. But they seemed to have a type of magic that
made them stealthy -- nearly invisible! They came in the still
of night when most were sleeping, and they caught Ooghra
Wolf-heart's family on a scouting mission, miles away from the
rest of the tribe. The Wolf-hearts were slain in a most
cowardly fashion. Only one of them, the smallest and most
easily overlooked, escaped the slaughter. Hiding in
the brush outside her lean-to of rocks and bear skins, Ooghra
watched as they drug the bodies of her mother, father, and three
siblings away into the darkness. Her face was hot with tears
and fury. Her lower lip bled from where she had bitten it with
her sharp teeth. She swore on her family's honor that she would
claim her revenge a hundred-fold. Eventually
young Ooghra, having garnered enough knowledge of tracking and
hunting from her skillful father, made her way back to the
central Frostwolf tribe and rejoined her people. They welcomed
her as their lost daughter and trained her further along the
path meant for her: the path of a hunter. She embraced it
eagerly. Though she trained hard for many years, she never
forgot the oath she had taken to avenge her bloodline. As she grew
in ability she came to work closely under Thrall, once or twice
taking orders from the Warchief directly. One such mission sent
her to Tirisfal Glades and the cursed cathedral of the Scarlets.
She was to infiltrate the Monestary and seek out a member of the
Forsaken who had been taken there to be questioned and
tortured. Upon
breaching the inner corridors of the Monestary, Ooghra was
surprised by something she didn't expect to find: a young blood
elf in heavy armor, wearing the crest of a dark paladin,
fighting valiantly against a group of Scarlet soldiers. Now, Ooghra
had never thought highly of the Sin'dorei. She couldn't
understand what good they were, and why Thrall had thought them
so worthy of joining the Horde in the first place... but she
also knew what despicable things the Scarlets would do to him if
they had the opportunity. And the elf, though clearly
outmatched, was fighting with skill and bravery. Without
further thought, Ooghra drew her bow and crippled the three
Scarlets, allowing the knight to finish them off. The elf was
Luciendar of Silvermoon. Though they
made an odd pair if ever there was one, they found that not only
could they tolerate each others' company -- but they actually
worked quite well together, with Luciendar charging forward in
distraction, while Ooghra launched a volley of arrows at her
unsuspecting victims. The Horde
advancement into the Dark Portal had begun by this time, and
both orc and Sin'dorei alike were eager to venture forth and
prove useful for their people. Ooghra was reunited with her
ancestors, the Mag'har, and discovered her calling as a defender
of Garadar. She spent over a year in Nagrand, studying her
peoples' culture and learning more in the ways of training
beasts and Talbuks. Luciendar
was welcomed by the Scryers in Shattrath City and has taken a
liking -- almost an obsession -- to the swamps of Zangarmarsh.
His powers in Retribution continue to grow daily. These days, Ooghra's wanderings have taken her to the farthest, coldest reaches of Northrend, and she continues to serve the Horde with fierce pride. Her blood-oath to avenge her family still weighs heavily on her mind, but the war with Arthas has pushed her personal feelings to the wayside for the time being. As long as there is still breath left in her, Ooghra Wolf-heart will fight on.
