Metalwolf's Story

(at Level 80)-  (Nov 4, 2009) (a prot paladin)

Metalwolf and his brother Redskinned lived together in a small village that had always been their home.  A few years ago, Metalwolf was called to go fight the scourge with his friends. He didn't want to leave his brother, but he had to go fight in the war against the scourge and his brother was still too young to go with them.  No matter how much Redskinned begged Metalwolf to take him with him saying, “I can fight too!”  Metalwolf continued to say no that he had to leave Redskinned at home.  Metalwolf explained to Redskinned that it would be safer for him to remain behind in the village, that he was still too young to go fight the scourge, and Metalwolf went off alone.

Metalwolf fought in the war against the scourge for months. During that time, Metalwolf was fighting long and tough battles. Each day he thought he wouldn't make it. Metalwolf thought of his brother back at home as he fought and it fueled his fire to fight harder.  It made him stronger and more determined.  Because of his determination and perseverance, Metalwolf stood out among his friends and was soon recognized by the leaders.

After some months, Metalwolf was separated from his friends and sent to Zul’Drak to fight the scourge who were overrunning that area.  One day when he was fighting to save the outpost there from a huge group of ghouls, a large troll who he did not know stepped up to his side and joined in the battle beside him, casting his spells to help kill the enemies.  After a very long fight, they finally killed the whole group and sat down together there on the battlefield to rest and have a bite to eat.  Afterward, they went their separate ways.

Metalwolf had not been away from the troll for long when he saw a large group of ghouls jump out from where they had been hidden well behind a large boulder, and run to attack the troll.  He knew there were far too many of them for the troll to handle alone so Metalwolf run towards the group and the troll and jumped into the fight.  He began swinging his great axe and killing.  Metalwolf and the troll fought hard and long, side-by-side. When the ghouls were finally defeated, all lying dead at their feet, the troll turned to Metalwolf and bowed and thanked him.  That was when they exchanged names.  The troll said, “My name is Hartok”, and Metalwolf said, “I am called Metalwolf”.

That was the first day of a long friendship.  Together, they went on to fight the scourge until the war finally calmed down enough for them to go home for a nice rest.  Metalwolf invited Hartok to go home with him and Hartok went.

When they got to Metalwolf’s home, Metalwolf saw that the place was empty.  He could see that the place had been vacant for some time.  His brother, Redskinned, was not there and there was no note or other evidence of where he had gone. Metalwolf was upset and Hartok asked him what was the matter.  Metalwolf told him he was sad because he couldn’t find his brother, Redskinned, who should have been there.  He didn’t know what had become of his brother.  He should have been there.  He had to search for his brother.  He needed to find him.

Hartok told Metalwolf that he would go with him and help him search for his brother. They talked for a bit and had a meal, and rested for a day.  Then they went out together to search for Redskinned.

A few months later, after wandering and searching all across the northern parts of Kalimador together, and not finding Redskinned, they stopped and made camp one night not far from the Cross Roads in The Barrens.  While they were cooking their meal, Hartok looked at Metalwolf and said, “My friend, I’m so glad that we met.  During the time that we have been together, I have come to regard you as more than just a friend.  I know we are not related by blood, but, in my eyes, I now see you as my brother.  I have a secret to tell you, one that I have told no one else.”  And, Hartok went on to tell Metalwolf about himself and his brother Zudtok, and about what had happened to their parents when they were small, and about how they had become separated at an early age, and he said,  “I too am searching for my brother.”

Metalwolf just looked at Hartok in surprise.  Hartok went on to say, “I promise you, we will look for your brother together, and we won’t stop until we find him.”

So they searched.  They searched for both Redskinned and for Zudtok.

Some time later, Hartok was called to go to Borean Tundra and Metalwolf was sent to The Storm Peaks and so they had to separate, but they agreed to keep in touch with each other, and to continue searching for both of their brothers.

Not long afterward, Metalwolf was asked to go to Silvermoon City and he went.  He was asked to join the Royal Guard there, and he readily agreed to do that.  He pledged his fealty to Queen Laara and became her personal bodyguard.

The story of Metalfist

METALFIST

Metalfist was born in the distant land of Mulgore.

As he was growing up, he took a great interest in becoming as strong and fierce as he could.  He always enjoyed getting weapons from his family and friends. His parents always thought he had a warrior's heart of strength.

When he was old enough, he set out into the world. He searched the lands for strong warriors to help him hone his skill as a warrior.  He knew he needed formal training and he traveled to many lands in search of an academy that would accept him and be willing to train him.  He finally found one and he became a student, studying under other warriors.  He worked hard to learn all that he could and be good at what he did.

When his warrior training was finally complete, he headed home to Mulgore.  He wanted to see his family.

When he got home, his parents met him at the door and draw him into the house.  They were very happy to see him and they told him that he was in for a great surprise.  They told him all about what had happened while he was away ... and they told him about Dancingwolf.

Then they led him to the door of the room and Metalfist looked in and saw Dancingwolf… his new brother… for the first time.  Hearing footsteps approaching the door, Dancingwolf looked up.  Metalfist smiled and walked over to him and, putting his arms around him and giving him a big hug he said, “Hello little brother!”

It was no time before Metalfist and Dancingwolf became best friends.  Metalfist was the best brother he could be to Dancingwolf.

One day a few weeks later, as they were out hunting together in the plains of Mulgore, Dancingwolf said to Metalfist, “Metalfist, you make me feel much loved.  Thank you for being such a great brother!”

The story of Redskinned

Redskinned
(at Level 69)  - (Oct 24, 2009)
(a death knight)

Redskinned's brother, Metalwolf, was going away to fight in the scourge war and Redskinned wanted to go with him, but Metalwolf told Redskinned he was too young to fight the scourge and that he would have to remain behind at home in the village. Redskinned was upset.  He wanted to fight the scourge too.

Metalwolf had been gone for two weeks when Redskinned decided he would go fight the scourge on his own.  Redskinned packed his bag and went out to find a battle to join in.  It didn’t take long for him to find a group to join, and he was immediately sent out with a group to fight.

As the battle raged on, Redskinned found out what his brother had said was true, he wasn't ready to fight yet, but it was too late, he was already in a battle and he could not leave.

That was when something hit him over the head very hard and knocked him out.  When he came to, he found he was alone, and it was nearly dark.  He didn't know where he was, who he was, or how he got where he was, so he started wandering around the wilderness, still in a daze.

By chance, a young blood elf hunter came across him when on her way back home from a hunting trip.  She had a brace of rabbits on her belt.  She asked him “What is your name?” Of course, Redskinned did not recall his own name, so he told her he didn't know.

The hunter saw that Redskinned was hurt and persuaded him to let her tend to his wounds, and Redskinned agreed. The hunter began to set up camp.  She started a fire and set some water to heating.  Then she took a good look at Redskinned.  As she was cleaning his wounds, she saw something around Redskinned’s neck and asked Redskinned if she could see it.  Redskinned said sure and handed the medallion to the hunter.   She looked it over carefully and saw it was engraved on the back with the words "to my brother Redskinned from Metalwolf".  Redskinned didn't know it, but it was the medallion his brother Metalwolf had given him before Metal left to go fight in the scourge war.

The hunter told Redskinned, "it says here to my brother Redskinned from Metalwolf", so that means your name is Redskinned.  Redskinned could not recall whether that was true or not, but he did not object to the name.

Night came on as they talked.  After roasting the rabbits that the hunter had caught earlier, and after talking for awhile longer, they both lay down by the campfire and fell asleep.  The next morning the hunter told Redskinned that she wanted to return to her village and she invited him to go with her, and he went.

She was quite skilled with her bow and, over the months they were together, she taught Redskinned how to hunt for food and how to fight again, and they became good friends.

One morning, months later, Redskinned went out alone to hunt for food for the day.  He had become quite proficient at hunting by that time.  He planned to take back enough meat so that their village could have a share of it.   It was a successful hunt and Redskinned took a large portion of the kill back to the village leader.  Everyone was pleased with Redskinned's generosity.

It was the next morning when the scourge attacked the village.  Redskinned took up his weapons alongside his hunter friend.  They both tried to defend the village, but there were just too many scourge.  Many were killed outright, but not Redskinned and his hunter friend.  They were taken as prisoners by the scourge.  Their weapons were taken away from them and they were tied up.  That was the last clear thing Redskinned remembered before he was hit over the head and he lost consciousness.

Later, Redskinned came to inside a building, in a cage, still tied up.  His hunter friend was nowhere near him.  He remembered they had been caught together and he was worried about what had become of her.

Then the scrouge came and dragged Redskinned away to a lab and tied him to a chair. At Arthas’ instructions, they tried to brainwash him, but they were not entirely successful.  Finally, Arthas went and whispered in his ear.  After that, all Redskinned could remember was that he had been born into a small tribe of hunters, that he had been a great hunter, and his friend (What was her name again? He could not recall it.)…

Arthas had inspected Redskinned well and said that he would indeed make a great Death Knight, and ordered that Redskinned be completely converted into one of his Death Knights.  By the time they were through with him and he was near the end of the transformation process, he could not remember anything of his past.  That was when they sent Redskinned out to kill his hunter friend.  When he saw her, he did not know who she was, but she recognized him.  She started talking and memories started to come back to Redskinned.  He started to remember his friend, that she was a great hunter.  He had glimpses in his mind of the two of them hunting together.  She kept talking.  He recalled that they had been on the verge of being bonded together and a vision of their village came into his mind.  Then he saw flashes of other memories… including the scourge overpowering the village.  He tried to break free of Arthas’ will, but Arthas' hold on him was too strong.  He was too weak at the time and he could not overcome Arthas’ hold.   He was under Arthus’ spell and he could not stop himself from carrying out his orders.  He tried, but he could not break free of Arthas’ hold over himself, and so he killed his hunter friend.

Sometime later, when all the Death Knights finally broke free from the Lich King's hold, they all started to get their memories back… slowly.  They formed a new alliance and left Ebon Hold.

That was when Redskinned started thinking about his hunter friend, the one he had loved and killed.  He was so sad.  All he could think was “I killed her”.  He tried to move on with his life, but couldn't get the image of his lost friend out of his head.

And then… he thought “I'll fight the Lich King with my new friends.” I want Arthas to pay for what he did to my village, to my people, to my friend, and to me.

We will make Arthas pay for what he did to us, and he shouted,  "ARTHAS IM COMING FOR YOU!"

 ... Dancingwolf...

Redskinned and Zudtok were having a great time together as they were roaming the lands of Azeroth in search of their brothers.  Then, all of a sudden, an elite force of Forsaken ambushed them.  These were not just a random group of Forsaken out pleasure killing, but rather a group who were bent on eradicating all of the blood elves.  They were strong and dangerous!

Redskinned and Zudtok fought the Forsaken with all of their might and eventually they became separated from each other.

Redskinned tried to fight all the Forsaken and he was holding his own, (he couldn’t see Zudtok anywhere), but before long their numbers overwhelmed him and the next thing he knew he was roaming a land he didn't remember.  By some miracle, he had managed to escape the Forsaken and lose them.  He had also lost Zudtok, but, at the time, he didn’t think of that.

As he was wandering around the Barrens, he came across a Forsaken Base Camp.  He wanted to see what was going on there, so he tried to get close enough to listen but not so close that he would be spotted. From where he was hidden, he could hear the Base Camp Leader talking about their plans to eradicate all of the blood elves through the use of a poison.  He said it caused a deadly disease in the blood elves to which there was no known cure.  However, it was not harmful to any of the other races, the Forsaken included.

All of a sudden, Redskinned was knocked out cold.  He was dragged into the Forsaken Base Camp and left on the ground, surrounded by the Base Camp Leader and many Forsaken.  They weren’t sure what to do with him, but they knew they could not let him go, or he would warn others and their plan might not be successful.

The Base Camp Leader looked down at Redskinned and then called one of the Forsaken men over to him and told him to prepare a syringe and bring it to him.  He said “We will start with this one!” and he chuckled.  The man did as he was instructed and quickly brought the deadly serum to the Base Camp Leader and, while Redskinned was still unconscious, the Base Camp Leader bent down and injected it into Redskinned’s arm.  Instantly, the deadly disease went into his blood system.

Redskinned looked around and he knew where he was, but he didn’t know how he got there.  He felt fuzzyheaded.  Something was wrong with him.  He could see the Great Lift at the base of Thunderbluff and knew if he could get there, he could get help.  All he knew was he had to get to the Great Lift.  So he stumbled along and fell down a few times as he forced his feet to carry him forward.  Each time he fell, he was able to drag himself back up right and continue on, still stumbling and off balance in his walking.  His tongue felt thick and he was very thirsty.  Things in the distance were becoming blurry and out of focus and he felt hot.  His feet felt so clumsy and his weapon and gear was so heavy.  He was very sluggish.  All he knew was, “I have to get to the Great Lift at Thunderbluff.”

The poison that had been injected into his arm had a real hold on him.  He struggled on, and finally when he was about 20 yards away from the Great Lift, he fell to the ground and passed out.

It was just by chance that two Tauren were approaching the Great Lift from the other direction at that same time.  They had been watching Redskinned for some time, and they saw when he fell and remain on the ground.  They made their way over to him as quickly as they could and picked him up.  They took him up to Thunderbluff with them.  They knew that if any one could help him, it would most certainly be the great Druid Healers, so they took him to Elder Rise to the great Druid Healers.

The Druid Healers saw the two tauren carrying Redskinned towards them as they approached the Healers tent and the Druid Healers rushed out to see what was the matter with the blood elf.  The two tauren quickly described what they had seen and how they had found Redskinned.  They described his erratic behavior, describing how they had seen him stumbling and falling as he was making his way to the great lift.

Redskinned was semi-conscious during the trip over to Elder Rise, and he opened his eyes for a minute when the two tauren lay him on the ground before the Druid Healers.  Then he blacked out.

While the Druid Healers were examining Redskinned, they found the red mark and the puncture wound where the needle had entered his arm.  They immediately knew what was wrong with him.

They had heard rumors about a group of Forsaken that were hell-bent to eliminate all of the blood elves, and they had heard that they were planning to do it through poisoning them.  Because of the rumor, the Druid Healers had gotten their hands on a small sample of the poison and had been experimenting with it.  They had been working with it combining it with tauren blood, looking for an antidote.  What they had come up with was unusual.

Until now, they had not seen any blood elves who had been poisoned by the Forsaken.  This was the first blood elf they had seen who had contracted the disease.  They knew there was no time to lose if the blood elf was to be saved, and they knew that there was only one way possible to save Redskinned, and then there was only a slim chance of that.

The Druid Healers quickly moved to the locked chest and removed a small syringe containing what they considered to be an antidote.  It was a strand of tauren dna.  If they used it on the blood elf, he would likely survive, but his life would be forever changed.  If they did nothing, he would certainly die.

Redskinned opened his eyes.  He felt disoriented.  It was hard to focus.  The Druid Healer saw that Redskinned was awake and bent down and starting talking to him.  He told Redskinned that he thought he could save Redskinned’s life with the antidote he had, but what he was going to have to do would change Redskinned forever.  He wanted to save Redskinned’s life, but he also wanted Redskinned to know what that would mean.  So, as quickly and simply as he could, he told Redskinned about what he could expect to happen to him if the antidote was used on him and he survived and he asked Redskinned if he wanted him to proceed.

Of course Redskinned wanted to live, and he said “Do whatever you must.  I will live.”  With that he once again closed his eyes and went limp.

The Druid Healer immediately pierced Redskinned’s arm with the needle in his hand and slowly injected the antidote into his blood stream.  Then he sat back and waited.  He knew it would not be an instant recovery, but a slow process, if it worked at all.

The Druid Healer knew that the next time Redskinned woke up he would no longer be a blood elf and he would have no memory of his past as one.  He would be a tauren and he would have a new life.  Any number of tauren families would welcome Redskinned into their homes, adopting him, and making him a part of their lives.  He would receive a new tauren name too and he would forever after be a tauren.

The Druid Healer was still by his side the next day when Redskinned woke up and said in a deep tauren voice, “I would like to eat. I am very hungry.”

The Druid Healer could see that the antidote had been a success and the transformation was complete.  He smiled at Redskinned and helped him stand up.  Then he lead Redskinned to the nearby table where a plate of food and a glass of ale was put before him, and he began to eat.

Redskinned was surprised that he could not remember his name or how he came to be in the Druid Healer’s tent.  The Druid Healer told Redskinned that he had been ill and that his name was Dancingwolf.  He said “Do not worry about the fact that you can not remember a lot about your past.  The sickness caused you to have amnesia.  It is something we can not fix.  I am sorry.  But, do not worry. Your family will be here to pick you up shortly.  They will take you home and help you.”

Three days later, Metalfist walked into his room and said “Hello little brother!” and hugged him.

The Story of HARTOK

(Nov 27, 2009) (a mage) (level 80)

*******

Hartok was a young troll with a dream to become an awesome mage someday.  He also had a secret.

When he was old enough to be trained in the higher mage skills, the great mages of Dalaran recruited him and he was very happy that his dream was finally going to come true.  The great mages opened a huge portal to Dalaran and he stepped through it into Dalaran with them.  Once there, he was put into a squad of young mages to train with.  All he could think about was how much he wanted to become a great mage someday, and it was his secret that was his greatest source of encouragement.

It took Hartok a few years of hard work and persistence, and eventually he graduated from the Mage Academy in Dalaran as a full-fledged Mage.  At that point, he realized his dream had come true.  He had become the mage he had always dreamed on becoming.

Then it was time for him to go to work, and Hartok was ready.  The war was taking its toll.  The scourge was everywhere and his skills were much needed in the lands outside Dolaran.   He knew once the war died down, it would be time for him to start his search, until that time, he would just have to wait.  He would just have to wait a little longer.

He was sent out with a group of his fellow recently graduated mages, under the supervision of three elite mages who had been their instructors at the Mage Academy, to fight the scourge.  He traveled through many different lands fighting the scourge over and over, alongside his fellow mages.  There just never seemed to be an end to the number of scourge.  But Hartok was prepared and he did his fair share of the killing.  He was constantly honing his skills and was indeed a great mage.

After some time had passed, he was singled out by the elite mages and was sent to Zul'Drak to help fight the scourge there.

One day, shortly after his arrival in Zul’Drak, as he was fighting, he came across a paladin who was fighting to save the outpost from a huge group of ghouls.  Immediately Hartok jumped right into the battle.  After a very long fight, they finally killed the whole group and sat down together there on the battlefield to rest and have a bite to eat.  Afterward, they went their separate ways.

Hartok had not been away from the paladin long when he was suddenly attacked by a huge group of ghouls who had been hidden well behind a large boulder, and he instinctively started to fight back.  Seeing the number attacking him, he realized he was far out-numbered and he thought that fight just might be his last one.  He was nearly overpowered when out of nowhere the paladin he had met early was suddenly at his side, fighting the ghouls with him.  They fought hard and long, and Hartok was very grateful for the heals the paladin had been able to throw on him from time to time during the battle.  Hartok was more than a little grateful to the paladin who had saved his life.  When the ghouls were finally defeated, all lying dead at their feet, Hartok turned to the paladin and bowed and thanked him.  That was when they exchanged names.  He said, “My name is Hartok”, and the paladin bowed as well and said, “and I am called Metalwolf”.

That was the first day of a long friendship.  Together, they went on to fight the scourge until the war finally calmed enough for them to go home for a nice rest.  Metalwolf invited Hartok to go home with him and Hartok went.  When they got to Metalwolf’s home, Hartok saw that Metalwolf was upset and he asked him what was the matter.  Metalwolf told him he was sad because he couldn’t find his brother, Redskinned, who should have been there.  He didn’t know what had become of his brother.  He should have been there.  There was no note, and it was evident that Redskinned had been away from their dwelling for some time.

I have a secret to tell you, one that I have told no one else.”  And, Hartok went on to tell Metalwolf about himself and his brother Zudtok, and about what had happened to their parents when they were small, and about how they had become separated at an early age.  “I too am searching for my brother.”

Metalwolf just looked at Hartok in surprise.  Hartok went on to say, “I promise you, we will look for your brother together, and we won’t stop until we find him.”

So they searched.  They searched for both Redskinned and for Zudtok.

Some time later, Hartok was called to go to Borean Tundra and Metalwolf was called to Storm Peaks and they had to separate, but they agreed to keep in touch with each other, and to continue searching for both of their brothers.

******************************

One day, sometime later, while stationed at Warsong Hold in Borean Tundra, Queen Laara paid of visit to the garrison.  Hartok happened to be in the Hold that day when she stepped off the ship, and he went up to greet her.  He was pleased that he was having the chance to meet her.  He knew his friend, Metalwolf, was her personal bodyguard.  Metal had told Hartok how much he enjoyed that post.  He had also told Hartok that the Queen was a fine lady, a hard fighter, fair with justice and honest, and he admired her greatly.

Metal also had said that he trusted her completely, and that he had told the Queen about his and Hartok’s search… the search for their lost brothers.

So, Hartok was anxious and pleased to meet Queen Laara.

The Story of ZUDTOK

(a rogue)

Zudtok was a young troll in a small clan of trolls.  He had an older brother named Hartok who was training to become a mage.  Their mother was a mage and their father was a rogue. The boys wanted to be like their parents.

Zudtok’s dream of becoming a rogue like his father started out when he was just a young boy.  It started one day when his father came back from a hunt and gave Zudtok a small blade he had found while hunting. After that, Zudtok kept that blade constantly at this side, never going anywhere without it.  He would sneak up on Hartok, pretending to be in stealth like a rogue.  He thought that was great fun and Hartok went along with the game.  Both of the boys were young and they enjoyed playing together.

One morning while Zudtok and Hartok were still sleeping, they woke up when they heard loud noises outside their hut.  They looked around but did not see either their mother or their father inside the hut, so they got up to go see what was going on.  When they walked out of the hut, they saw that their village was under attack.  They saw their parents getting their weapons and rushed to them and hugged them.  Their parents saw the boys and grabbed and hugged them back.  Over their heads, their parents could see the scourge pouring into the village and coming towards them, far too many attackers… …the village was going to quickly be overrun and they were not going to be able to hold them off for long.  They knew they were not going to survive the attack, but they wanted to save their boys.  So, they hugged the boys tightly and insisted they immediately get out of the village, saying, “Run! Get away from here. Run! Hide some place and be quiet.  Look after each other. We love you!  Go now! Run! Run! Run!”, and they turned the two boys away from them and pushed them away in the opposite direction of the approaching attackers.

The boys grabbed each other’s hands and ran, and ran, and ran, but when they got fair a distance away, they turned and looked back.  They saw their parents fall under the attack of the scourge.  They knew their parents had been killed. The boys screamed and, still holding hands, turned and ran. They ran and ran and ran.  They ran until they couldn’t run any more.

Before long, they were pretty far away from the village and they became tired so they sat down under a bush to hide and rest.  After a little time, they got up and started wandering around Durotar.  They were scared and they were sad, but before long they were hungry and thirsty.  The boys were young, but they knew how to fish and they knew to stay together.

Zudtok didn’t know where to go or what to do. All he knew was that he had to stay with Hartok.  He knew that Hartok knew where the river was and he was glad when he saw that Hartok was taking him towards it.  They had to watch out for the wild boars on the land and for the crocolisks in the water, but they were careful.  They found some berries on a bush and they ate them.  They got a drink from the river but they didn’t have any way to catch a fish to eat. Fishing seemed so easy when they were with their father. It wasn’t as easy without him and they didn’t have any fishing poles, so they settled for just drinking some of the river water.

Zudtok started to cry again. Hartok knew he had to be strong and look after his younger brother so Hartok took Zudtok’s hand and led him to a nearby bush and the boys crawled under it and lay down and Hartok put his arms around Zudtok.  Before long they fell asleep together.

Not long afterward, a hunter who was out searching for food with his pet came upon the boys under the bush.  He approached the boys and saw that they were very young, too young to be out there under that bush sleeping.  He wondered where their folks were.  He did not see any campfire or other evidence of a camp.  So he carefully and gently woke the boys up and they immediately started to cry.  The hunter saw the boys were dirty and in sleeping clothes.  He knew something awful must have happened.  He guessed they were probably hungry and thirsty too so he gave them some water and some of his food to eat.  As the boys ate and had a drink, they cried out their story to the hunter, how their village had been attacked, how their parents told them to run, and how they had seen their parents being attacked and then fall. The boys were sobbing.  The hunter tried to comfort them. He now understood what had happened in their village and what had happened to cause the boys to be out here without their parents.  The hunter had seen the smoke from the fire in the distance earlier in the day and wondered what was happening over there in that village.  Now he knew, and he was glad he had not gone over there to investigate.

The hunter felt so sorry for the boys, but he was very glad he had found them.  With night approaching, there was no doubt the boys would have been killed by the wandering beasts that roamed the area.

The hunter convinced the boys to go with him, and he took them to the orphanage outside Orgrimmar, to be looked after there.  He knew they would be safe there and have a place to sleep and food to eat.  He was just sorry he could not do more for them.

So that is how Hartok and Zudtok came to be living in the orphanage.  They missed their parents, but the nice people at the orphanage cared for them and the boys eventually accepted the circumstances that had brought them there.

One day, several weeks later, two families arrived at the orphanage at the same time, each looking to adopt a young troll boy, each wanting another son. It just so happened that one of the families wanted a mage and the other family wanted a rogue.  The Matron immediately thought of Hartok and Zudtok.

Of course, the Matron had hoped that some family would come and want to take Hartok and Zudtok together into their family, but it was hard times for everyone, and she knew it was inevitable that the boys would have to be separated.  They couldn’t stay in the orphanage forever.  The Matron had to make a decision and, as much as she wanted to keep the boys together, she knew it just was not going to be possible.

So, the Matron sent Hartok to live with the family who wanted a mage son, and she sent Zudtok away with the family who wanted a rogue son.  She was saddened to have to do that, but she knew the boys were going to good folks, who would treat them well and raise them right, furthering their training and the boys would have good homes and a family to love them.

Zudtok was too young to understand, but Hartok, being the older of the boys, understood when the Matron explained to him the situation.  He did not want to go live with a family without Zudtok, but he knew the family wanted Zudtok as much as the other family wanted him, and Hartok knew that this decision of the Matron was really the best one for him and for his brother.  Although he was not happy about it, he accepted it, and agreed… But he knew Zudtok would fight it.

So the boys were separated and given to the families to go home with them, Zudtok to one family and Hartok to the other one.  Just as Hartok suspected, Zudtok did not want to go without him, but Hartok was patient and kind and got him to understand that it was only going to be for a little while, and eventually Zudtok agreed to go with the kind people, without Hartok.

Grezuul and Zudtok, brothers by Adoption - December 7, 2009

When Zudtok got to his new home, he was still upset that Hartok was not there with him and he cried, but the nice people were kind and understanding and they soon made him happy to be with his new family.  The nice people had another son named Grezuul, who also lived with them, so Zudtok had a new big brother named Grezuul.  But he never forgot Hartok.

Zudtok found that Grezuul was a happy little troll.  He was always laughing and dancing around.  He was also training to become a rogue, just like Zudtok.  Zudtok showed Grezuul his little blade and Grezuul told Zudtok that he was lucky to have it.  Grezuul could see that the blade meant a lot to Zudtok because he never let it out of his sight.  Grezuul was about the same age as his brother Hartok and Grezuul liked to play with Zudtok so it made being separated from Hartok easier for Zudtok to handle.

Grezuul was a good brother to Zudtok.  They did many things together.  They talked and they danced to the village Voodoo music.  It was so fun.  At school they would fight big Tauren bullies.  They were the best in school.  On teamwork days they played soccer near the village with a leather ball their father made.  They were called "The Epic Rogues" because they worked so well together and never gave up.  No one could tell that they were not brothers by blood.  They got along so well.

Although his life was good with his new family, and they seemed to care for him, Zudtok never forgot Hartok.  At first, he would often cry at night and Grezuul would try to comfort him, but nothing could comfort Zudtok.  He would just turn his face into this pillow.

Zudtok never told Grezuul about his parents and his brother Hartok, who he missed so much, and Grezuul never asked.

One day, when Zudtok was a few years older, his new family signed him up to go to the Rogue Academy in Dalaran for further training.  They had taught him all they could and they knew he was yearning to learn more.  They knew that Zudtok wanted to become a great rogue, and they knew it was his destiny.  Ever since he had first come to be with them, he had played with that little blade all the time, forever slinking around pretending to be in stealth. That little blade was still with him.  It was never out of his possession.

Zudtok was accepted to the Rogue Academy and he went to Dalaran to train.  The whole time he was training and perfecting his skills, he kept thinking about Hartok, wondering where he was and what he was doing, wondering if they would ever find each other again. One day while strolling along the streets of Dalaran, he saw a troll mage who from a distance looked like his brother and he ran to speak to him.  Zudtok was sure it had to be Hartok, but when he got close to the mage, he saw it was not Hartok.  Zudtok felt sad.  He had really hoped it was his brother.

Before he knew it, Zudtok graduated from the rogue academy and went right out to fight the scourge in the war.

A year went by.  One day as Zudtok was fighting, he and a blood elf death knight stumbled into each other in a battle and together they helped each other out of the tight fight, and after that they became friends. The blood elf death knight told Zudtok that his name was Redskinned.  Over time, Redskinned confided in Zudtok that he was searching for his brother Metalwolf, who he had become separated from some years back, and about the circumstances that had lead to that. Zudtok was amazed that he would become friends with someone who had a story so similar to his own, so he told Redskinned that he too was searching for his brother… his brother Hartok, and about how they had come to be separated from each other. After that, everywhere Redskinned and Zudtok went, they looked for Metalwolf and Hartok, but they never found them or met anyone who knew anything about either one of them.

Finally, the war died down some and Zudtok and Redskinned were told to go home and have a good rest.  When they parted, they promised each other that they would keep in touch with each other and that they would each keep searching for both Hartok and Metalwolf. They also promised to tell the other if either of them ever came across either of the brothers, and they promised to tell the brothers that both Zudtok and Redskinned were looking for them, so that they could reunite.

So, they both went home for a rest.

"Do you by chance have a brother named Hartok?..."
(Nov 27, 2009)

A few years later, one day when Zudtok was travelling across the Valley of Trials a beautiful blood elf woman approached him and asked him if his name was Zudtok, and if he had a brother named Hartok.  He was surprised that this woman would know his name and that of his brother. He was sure he had not met her before. He didn’t know it, but it was Queen Laara.
