The Story of Septu

(a DK) - at Level 62 in Hellfire - July 26, 2010

As a child Septu was always the smallest, very petite in size.  Since she was so small, she was very agile and quick with lightning fast reflexes.  She put those skills to work training to become a warrior like her father and, until his death, that was her dream.

Septu took after her mother in attributes.  With her long, flowing, curly light blonde hair and fair skin, she was the epitome of perfection, although she was too modest to notice. Like her mother, Maedra, Septu had deep, penetrating Sapphire blue eyes that glowed from within.  She also had delicate facial features that made others believe she was weak.  Her eyes were soft as was her skin, and her lips were soft as Peacebloom.  She had one small scar over her right eye which she received from tripping while running to her parents dead bodies a few weeks after the Scourge destroyed her home in Quel’Thalas.  She had small rune tattoos hidden beneath her clothes and her family crest tattooed in the center of her back.

Septu grew up a happy child until the day the Scourge attacked Quel’Thalas and killed everyone she had ever loved.  Angry and full of rage, Septu spent the next several years living with a family who had taken her and her sister, Audriana, in because they were orphaned.  Only being able to sustain and not quench her thirst for magic, Septu was forced to rely on Fel magic, which turned her once Sapphire blue eyes to a deep Fel green.  Her eyes were all she had left of her mother and herself and without those she only felt the rage growing with each passing day.

When Septu was of age, she took her sister, Audriana, and left the newly built Silvermoon and ventured north to Sunstrider Isle where they lived alone.  Septu was very protective of Audriana, never letting her leave the house or play with the other young Blood Elves who ran around freely.  Audriana hated her sister for this, but did as she was told anyway; until Septu would leave, then she would do as she pleased.

One day, while meditating to help relieve the withdrawal symptoms she was feeling, Septu felt like she was being called although she knew she was alone and no one ever came around.  She left the house in a hurry trying to figure out who was calling her. She journeyed to Silvermoon and the calling seemed to intensify.  She continued to follow it until she was standing just outside Sunfury Spire.  It was no longer a calling, but a pounding in her chest and she begged for it to stop.  She stepped inside, unsure of what she was doing there, when a young Priest named Rsydan approached her.  He smiled politely at her, but was silent, scrutinizing her every move.  Finally, fed up with it all, Septu turned to walk away.  Rsydan reached out to grab her arm.  She stood there, frozen, as he explained to her that he knew who she was, that Septu was the daughter of Cuadan and Maedra, and he went on to tell her that the calling she was hearing was because she was destined to be a priestess.  Shocked, but relieved, the pounding in her chest and the ringing in her ears stopped.  She was at once at peace.  She began her training that day.

There was no doubt she was and would be a great priestess, but her thirst for vengeance was holding her back, causing her to make careless mistakes that could cost her life, or worse, someone else’s.  Rsydan recommended that she take a journey to discover who she was and whether she could put an end to the vengeance she sought.

Septu returned to tell Audriana she was leaving the following morning and that Audriana would have to behave herself while she was gone.  Audriana was overjoyed and that night planned what she will do while her sister was gone.

The following morning, Septu packed a small satchel with some food and water and then left the house to start on her journey.  Had she known that she would not return, she might have been kinder to her sister or even said goodbye to her, but Septu was unaware of what danger awaited her.

Septu began her journey, first heading south toward the Ghostlands, all the while searching her soul for the answers she sought.  To no avail, she journeyed into the Ghostlands where she decided to rest and meditate on what Priest Rsydan had spoken to her about.  She was very confident she could protect herself from any harm, but was unprepared for Knuckelroot and Luzran’s appearance. Apparently, she had ventured further south from Tranquillien towards the Ziggurats than she had initially thought.  She was attacked by them both and injured severely, to within inches of her life, then drug off into the Deatholme, where she finally succumbed to her injuries and died.

Rebirth

When Septu awoke, she was cold and there was something eerie in the air.  It was the smell of death and she enjoyed it.  She stepped forward and faced the Lich King.  She bowed before him, awaiting the orders he demanded of her.

For several months, Septu trained hard and became a skilled swordsman and a Scourge Commander for the Lich King, leading the Scourge to kill whomever she was instructed to.

Septu trained with a fellow Knight named Pestilence. They both believed “live to serve and serve to live” and carried out whatever orders their king commanded. Several months after they both were promoted to Scourge Commanders, they were sent to seek out information in New Avalon per the Lich King’s instructions. After seeking the information, Pestilence went on without Septu, who was slowing down, quite a bit overloaded with orders from the Lich King.

Pestilence soon began to question things, speaking to her of a friend he had known a long time ago and that something had happened, though he would not tell her what.  Septu left it at that until she came to understand what he meant.

While completing orders one day, Septu was forced to confront and kill someone from her past, someone she could not remember.  This “friend” told her things she could not understand, things about her past and about her future and about what the Lich King had done, and who he truly was.  Septu was angry.  How could she believe this Blood Elf? If all he said was true, she deserved death.

A short few weeks later, things began to happen that Septu could not explain. While sleeping, she began having flashes of vivid scenes.  She envisioned things like a young girl who looked so familiar, but she did not know the girl.  She saw fires and the dead bodies of two Blood Elves, a warrior and a priest.  Then she saw a flicker of a family, a mother, father and son.  They were calling to her, begging her to wake up.  She awoke with a start.  She had received orders to attack Light’s Hope Chapel.  Septu and Pestilence put on their armor in silence, each lost in his own thoughts.  They saddled their Death Chargers and went off to find Highlord Darion to begin the assault on Light’s Hope Chapel.  As they were riding down the hill, at that moment, they both began to see what the Lich King was really like and Pestilence and Septu decided they did not want that life any longer, so, at the end of the battle, they became Knights of the Ebon Blade.

Upon her return to Archerus, Septu and Pestilence fought off what Scourge still remained alive and then ported to Orgrimmar.  Septu was still very confused at what had happened and why she kept having those flashes of visions and, as she ventured through Orgrimmar, people began to spit and throw food at her, yelling at her, calling her names, telling her of the horrible things she had done. She was distraught, but Warchief Thrall of Orgrimmar set the people straight, saying that Septu was a friend not a foe.  After that, Septu journeyed back to Archerus to learn new skills that were available to her.  While waiting to learn them, she discovered a book called “The Death Knights of Archerus”.  Within that book, she found hundreds of names of fellow and former Death Knights as a list of comments from the Highlords and Commanders, stating what they thought of each of them.  As she was scanning the names, she saw her name there.  At first she was surprised.  Then she read what they had written about her there.  It said, “Soulless killing machine. No remorse. No regrets. Has killed more Scarlet Crusaders, destroyed more lives, and caused more chaos than any other Death Knight before her.”

At that instant, Septu was flooded with all the memories of her previous life.  They were no longer flashes of visions, but one fluid sequence of events.  She saw her family, the fall of Quel’Thalas, the discovery of her dead brother and her parents, her training to become a priest, her sister Audriana, and finally her death.

This realization filled Septu with rage.  She could not believe it!  The one thing she despised the most was the thing she had become.  She was disgusted with herself and finally understood why all the people had reacted the way they had towards her in Orgrimmar that day.

Septu vowed to serve the Horde and aid in the campaign against the Lich King to avenge the deaths of her family.  To this day Audriana does not know of her sister Septu’s existence.  Knowing very well that Audriana would not be forgiving of Septu becoming the very thing that killed their parents, Septu decided to remain hidden from Audriana forever.  It broke her heart.
