16. Zess' Story

Zess in Orgrimmar

Zess Gorefiend, son of Teron Gorefiend, had a shady past. Recognizing his father's dark path, Zess was completely against wielding demonic magic.
Zess was found by Orgrim Doomhammer as he carried out a coup on Gul'dan and his Shadow Council. Zess was found laying under Teron's body nearly suffocated. Orgrim decided to adopt the orc whelpling and teach him the opposite of what he would have been destined to become had Teron been his mentor. Orgrim brought the knowledge of being an honorable warrior to Zess but Zess felt held back in progress by some supernatural force. Orgrim sought out the answer to this from his clan's shaman and to his and Zess's dismay the shaman told them that Zess had been cursed by his father and the Shadow Council's treachery. Being in direct bloodline with the almighty Teron Gorefiend had rendered him useless in all forms of magic and combat except the dark arts. Feeling deeply ashamed by this, Zess left Orgrim and the Blackrock clan to wander aimlessly throughout Azeroth.
20 Years Later...
One cold night in Zess's cave, deep in the mountains of Aerie Peak, a
human form entered the cave. Zess immediately grabbed his makeshift
club and released a merciless roar. Although Zess knew he had no true
talent in hand-to-hand combat, he hoped it would scare off this puny
human. The human let out a cackled lifeless laugh and strode forward.
As the mysterious human came closer to the fire, Zess saw that this
human was no longer alive but yet, functioning. The undead human told
Zess that he was Teron Gorefiend, his father. He had been reincarnated
into a so-called death knight and walked the earth once again. He
sought out Zess in order to tell him that the Horde was being
reorganized by a young warchief/shaman named Thrall and that they needed
his help. Teron told Zess he would teach him the ways of the Warlock in
order to help save his people. Zess reluctantly agreed after being weak
and powerless all these years.
Zess mastered the powers of the dark arts and was a forced to be
reckoned with. He loved his new found power and yet was always in a
struggle to bend the demonic will to do good for the orcish horde. To
this day, Zess carries out the will of the Warchief Thrall to the dismay
of the powers he calls upon.
