Veld

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Veld had been living with her aunts, Aisse and Yshira, on Lightbringer since she was five years old.  She remembered her sisters and her parents, Donatheol and Azurani, and she remembered the time before her parents went away to Stormwind to help fight in the war against the scourge who had invaded the City from the harbour there.  She remembered the picnics and the fun that she had with her sisters, Mennah, Dyy and Laara.  Although she had sent messages to them and received messages back from them over the years, she had not seen them since she had gone to live with their Aunts on Lightbringer.  But, Veld was now grown up and she knew that the time of living with her aunts was drawing to a close.  It was time for her to return home, and soon she would need to tell them her decision.  She wanted to go back to her homeland on Wyrmrest Accord and live with her sisters in Silvermoon City.

Of course, everyone on Lightbringer thought that Veld was one of them.  Except for the lack of a face tatoo, (like her aunts had and like most of the night elves had) she did look like them, a “night elf” of the Alliance Faction.

Her aunts were proud of her.  They had instilled in her the need to be respected and trustworthy and they had taught her to be honest, but they had also instilled in her the fact that she needed to be cautious and remain silent on some issues.  So, she said nothing to dispute anyone’s belief about her race.  She knew it was safer for her and for her aunts if she simply let everyone think they were right, and they were to a degree.  No one outside of her aunts knew that she was only half night elf.  Of course, everyone knew that Veld was their niece, the daughter of their sister who had died, but no one questioned who her father had been.  When anyone had mentioned Veld’s parents, once they heard “they have passed into the light of elune”, no more questions were asked.  It would have been rude and disrespectful to ask more.

Veld loved living on Lightbringer with her aunts.  They were easy to live with and fun to be around.  They were good teachers, skilled, honest and caring, and they loved Veld dearly.  They had taught Veld much.  Veld loved them too, and she dreaded the day when she would part from them.  She would miss them.  But, in her heart, she knew she belonged with her sisters and she longed to go see them.  Veld knew her aunts would be saddened by her leaving, but she knew they would understand and send her off with their blessings.

With that in mind, Veld planned to prepare something special for the meal on the night when she would be telling her aunts her decision.  She wanted it to be a happy surprise.  So, she planned the meal for a time when they would be away for the whole day.  That would give her time to prepare the special recipe while alone, without them being home to question her about the reason behind her obtaining the ingredients for such a feast and the hard work involved preparing it.

The recipe she wanted to make was one that she knew both of her aunts enjoyed very much, but one that was only made for special occasions, mainly because the ingredients were so hard to come by.  The Arctic Salmon that went into the recipe could only be fished out of the lakes in Wintergrasp, a place not easy to get to for Veld since, not only did it require the high level flying skill of Northend to get to, it was also a dangerous place, and only a level 80 would be able to go there to get it.  Those who ventured there, as well as the Elementals who lived there, were many levels above her in skill and often of the opposite faction, and all were anxious to kill any who ventured that way.  Without a doubt, she would have to find a trader to get the fish for her.

Of course, she could have asked one of her aunts to go and get the fish for her, but then that would have spoiled the surprise.  Besides, her aunts would undoubtedly have demanded that Veld immediately reveal to them the purpose behind her request for the fish, why she wanted to prepare such a meal without it being a special occasion.  She would not be able to avoid their questions or be untruthful to them with her answers.  Yes, a trader was the only way to get the fish.  So, Veld found a trader and paid him to bring the fish to her.

Her aunts had left at dawn, the trader had arrived and delivered the fish to her just as the sun was reaching the treetops and Veld had started preparing it immediately.  It was now cooking in the coals of the fire.  It would be ready to eat by the time her aunts returned home that night.

While the food was cooking, Veld went to look over all of her lovely things.  She had sorted out her bank and packs, and was now preparing for her upcoming journey.  Veld expected her aunts to be home by the time the sun touched the horizon.  They would be able to enjoy the sunset together.  Veld was excited, but she was also a little sad.  She would be telling her aunts her decision that night and then be leaving the next day.  She really loved her aunts and knew it would be a long time before she would see them again.

Chapter 2

Veld knew her life would change radically once she moved to Wyrmrest Accord, but little did she know just how different it would be, just how much she would have to learn once she got there.  First off, she would have to remember that she is “blood elf” rather than “night elf.  That would have to be paramount in her thought patterns.  For so long, she had been only “night elf” to everyone around her.  Now it was going to be just the opposite.  From now on, she was going to be only “blood elf” of the Horde faction.  It would take a little getting used to.

It had never occurred to her just how much she did not know about her Horde side.  She had much to learn.  She was grateful that her sisters were going to be helping her.  There were so many places that she had never visited while living on Lightbringer server with her aunts.  Not that her aunts prevented or forbid her from travelling, it wasn’t that; they encouraged her to travel and meet new people, and they took her on great adventures with them.  It was just that all the cities and places that Veld went to while on Lightbringer were either neutral places or places of the Alliance faction.  She had never visited a Horde faction city once while on Lightbringer.  It would not have been safe for her to do that.

Now, here she was on Wyrmrest Accord, having to learn where the Horde cities were and how to get around in them.  Stormwind, Ironforge, Darnassus and Exodar.  Those names were familiar to her.  Now she had to remember new cities: Orgimmar, Undercity, Thunderbluff and Silvermoon City.

Silvermoon City, her hometown, the place of her birth, the home of her father’s family and her sisters, the home of her parents, her father’s kingdom.  Now it was her sister Laara who ruled.  Much had changed while she was away.

Chapter 3

Veld had trained hard in the ways of the shadow and was quite strong in her class as a shadow priest.  She could defend herself well, all by herself, but she knew she could help many more people if she also trained as a holy priest.  She would be able to heal a lot better in that form than she could by being strictly shadow when she teamed up with others.  She was ready and anxious to go free the dungeons of the Outlands and Northrend of the deadly monsters.  All she needed was 1000 Gold and the strong conviction to dual spec.  She continued to think about it while she earned the money to train.

Weeks went by.  Veld travelled across Hellfire Peninsula, killing as she went, freeing the people.  She also went to Zangermarsh and to Terrokar Forest.  She dipped down into Shadowmoon Valley, up to Negrand and over to Netherstorm.  She went to the great dungeons of Scholomance and Stratholme in the Old World of Azeroth, and down to the great dungeons in Auchidoun: Mana Tombs, the Crypts, Setthek Halls and the Shadow Laborineath in Terrokar Forest, not far from Shattrath City.  And, she went up to the flying ship dungeons of Mechinar, Botanica and Arcatraz in Tempest Keep in Netherstorm.  It was time to move on to Northrend.

Chapter 4

To get to Northrend, Veld went to Undercity where she hopped onto a zeppelin that took her to Vengeance Keep on the eastern coast of the Howling Fjord in Northrend.  Adventure and Riches awaited.
